Does Delta-8 Show Up on a Drug Test?

Cannabis plants contain different cannabinoids and each of them has its own unique effects on the human body. Cannabidiol (CBD) is one such cannabinoid that most of us have heard of. Another commonly known cannabinoid is tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) which most of us associate with being “high” however, a regulated THC has some health benefits too. But, do you know there are other forms of THC? Delta 8 THC, Delta 9 THC and Delta 10. Each of them is found in trace amounts in cannabis plants. These cannabinoids have similar chemical structures but their effects can be slightly different. In this post, we are going to limit our conversation to Delta-8 and whether it shows on a drug test or not.

Will it show on the drug test or not?

The short answer is yes, it will indeed show on a drug test. In short, if you are looking for a compound for your health that you do not want to show on a drug test, delta-8 isn’t the solution. Now you might wonder how long Delta-8 is detectable via drug testing.  There is no evidence to support the notion that delta-8 THC is detectable for a longer duration than ordinary THC. Depending on the test type, the frequency of delta-8 use, and your own metabolism, delta-8 THC can be identified by drug testing a variety of times.

Urine test:

The most popular technique of drug testing is urine collection. Up to 30 days after the last usage, it may often still detect cannabis use.

Blood test:

Usually, blood testing can only reveal cannabis usage from the previous 2 to 12 hours. However, it has been proven to be present 30 days after the last use in those who use cannabis frequently and heavily.

Saliva test:

Up to 24 hours after consumption, THC can still be found in saliva. THC remains detectable in saliva 72 hours after usage, according to a 2020 study with cannabis smokers.

Hair test:

Cannabinoids can reach the hair follicles via blood vessels after you consume cannabis and the hair follicle test can detect THC up to 90 days after it has been used.

How long does it take for delta-8 to metabolize?

Drug tests search for more than just THC, they search for its metabolites. Small molecules called metabolites are created when a chemical is broken down by your body. Long after the THC itself has left your body, the metabolites continue to do so. Drug testing can therefore identify drug use even after you have stopped using the substance. A higher baseline level of THC metabolite concentration is linked to more frequent use. The time it takes for THC metabolites to be eliminated from the body increases with the number of metabolites present.

What are the factors that affect how long delta-8 stays in your system?

Although there hasn’t been much research on what influences how long delta-8 stays in your system, we do know that there are several things that influence how long delta-9 stays in your system. The same conditions might be true for delta-8 and those factors include:

How often do you use it:

It will take longer to leave your system if you use bigger doses more frequently than if you use lower amounts less frequently.

Your metabolism:

Naturally, some bodies get rid of THC more quickly than others.

Depending on how you used the substance, such as through edibles or tinctures, delta-8 may stay in your system a little bit longer.

Most of the THC products you see in the market are Delta-9 THC. Both of these compounds are intoxicating. In other words, consuming them can make you feel “high” Nowadays many people use delta-8 THC products instead of Delta-9 THC products.
